Slavery officially existed in the United States from 1619 to the passage of the 13th amendment in 1865. However, remnants remained for years especially in the deep South. In this episode, meet Rev. Charlie Burgess Sr. (My grandfather). Born during the Great Depression onto a plantation, he overcame many challenges to become a leader during the Civil Rights Movement.
